This self-study module is tailored for classroom practitioners aiming to orchestrate virtual exchanges for language learning. If you seek opportunities to connect with other language teachers and share ideas on organizing virtual exchanges, this module is designed to guide you through the process. Through this module, you'll not only gain insights into effective strategies for setting up virtual exchanges but also discover ways to identify and connect with like-minded teachers who share similar language learning interests.
This self-study module has been created within the context of the DIGI-LINGO project, incorporating insights from the pilot teachers actively engaged in the project, who have also provided feedback during the review process.

Learning objectives

  • Define and explain the crucial elements influencing language learning in the digital age by analyzing and applying relevant recommendations and guidelines in the context of digital language acquisition.
  • Identify and articulate the essential elements required for setting up a virtual exchange, including technological tools, communication platforms, and collaborative spaces.
  • Connect with potential language learning partners based on shared language learning goals and objectives.
  • Explore and discuss various ideas for synchronous and asynchronous online intercultural communication.

Prerequisites

The course targets any classroom practitioner who wants to organise virtual exchanges for language learning.

Certification

In order to receive the certificate you will need to complete the quiz and and achieve a minimum passing grade of 80%.

Course Staff

Efi Saltidou - Course Coordinator

Efi works as a Pedagogical and Project Coordinator for European Schoolnet. She provides pedagogical advice for the design and delivery of online and face-to-face professional development activities for teachers across Europe and also plans and delivers training in various formats, collaborating with a wide range of education stakeholders. In addition, she supports the management of projects focused on digital and inclusive education, innovative learning, and teacher training. With a deep understanding of online learning, instructional design, and educational technology, she offers valuable insights to enhance learning strategies, manage projects, and navigate the challenges of the digital age.

Alexandra Almpanidou - Course Coordinator

Alexandra works as a Pedagogical Coordinator for the European Schoolnet. She designs and delivers online and face-to-face professional development activities for teachers across Europe, such as workshops, courses, and conferences. She also contributes to various projects and initiatives that aim to enhance the quality and innovation of education, such as eTwinning, Future Classroom Lab, Digi-Lingo, and more. With a Master's degree in Curriculum Design and Innovation combined with her teaching experience, she has a strong background in educational sciences, instructional design, and e-learning implementation.

Behind the course

Digi-Lingo is a transnational co-operative rooted in a cross-regional European partnership consisting of five different partners. Our goal is to develop and support new and innovative teaching methods and programs within a digital format through a democratic, open and cross-cultural process. We work towards broadening digital awareness in the language-learning progress, and via this hope to enhance the European youth's foreign language skills.
