Welcome to the Facts4All MOOC: Schools Tackling Disinformation

The Facts4All Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) empowers primary and secondary teachers to develop and implement effective whole-school approaches to foster critical thinking and tackle online disinformation through intergenerational collaboration and community engagement. The course is targeted at primary and secondary school teachers of any subject. Other educational professionals and stakeholders, such as heads of schools, school support staff, and policy makers with an interest in this topic are welcome to join.

You can follow the course at your own pace. We will open one module at the beginning of each week, but there are only a few deadlines you need to pay attention to (those for the the peer assessment activity).

Learning objectives

  • To understand which issues in relation to disinformation are important in their community.
  • To identify disinformation online and understand what it is, and which methods and mechanisms are used to create, distribute and amplify disinformation via the internet.
  • To recognise how mis- and disinformation inevitably skews and polarises the public debate, both offline and online.
  • To explore and embrace the more active usage of social media tools, particularly opportunities for collaboration and content creation on social media platforms.
  • To adopt a participatory community-based and intergenerational approach, tailored to the needs of the local school community and reaching out to stakeholders such as local policy makers.
  • To test and apply specific tools, including examples for current issues important in their community and for different specific social media platforms, to understand their mechanisms etc.
  • To bring the local community together on a divisive issue, in trying to make a positive difference to society.


The course is targeted at primary and secondary school teachers of any subject. Other educational professionals and stakeholders, such as heads of schools, school support staff, and policy makers with an interest in this topic are welcome to join.


  • Module 1: Information challenges in communities: Introduction to the concept of information disorder opens on 14/03/2022
  • Module 2: The Internet, social media and information challenges opens on 21/03/2022
  • Module 3: Developing good practices and common approaches to deal with information challenges opens on 28/03/2022
  • Module 4: Tackling disinformation through school policy and practice opens on 04/04/2022


In order to earn a course certificate, participants need to develop and submit a strategic plan and review 3 of their peers' strategic plans. The strategic plan together with the peer reviews will count for 100%. The overall passing grade is 95%.

The final deadline to complete all activities is Wednesday, 20 April, 23:59 CEST.

Course Staff


Eray is a member of the Digital Citizenship team at the EUN. He works mainly on the youth participation and project assessment tasks of the Better Internet for Kids project, among others.


Gareth works as an online safety consultant to European Schoolnet and the UK Safer Internet Centre, delivering education and awareness sessions to youth and adults. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is a qualified primary school teacher.

Behind the course

Facts4All – Schools as community hubs against disinformation is a one year project co-funded by the European Commission's Media Literacy for All Programme project, which aims to increase awareness and critical thinking in relation to online disinformation across generations – in particular young people and their (grand)parents.
